From Jack to Juke: 25 Years of Ghetto House

You may have heard of Juke, that crazy, energetic, sped up house music from Chicago. Well here is an interesting look at how Juke came about. The documentary explores some of the history of the house sound in Chicago, the similarities between Juke and Bmore and Ghetto Tech, as well as the dance moves and where the sound is heading. Some good little interviews with some of the big names in the Chicago Juke sound. The documentary is now up on vimeo in its entirety -  Enjoy the fancy footwork!

Top Billin presents Moomba World

Top Billin have just released their first Moombahton compilation, aptly titled “Moomba World”. Appropriate given that Moombahton producers have seemingly popped up from all the corners of the globe now. I know the guys at Top Billin are big fans of Moombahton, and it shows with this compilation of great tracks, ready for clubs worldwide. In the release notes, Top Billin even state “What’s special to to us with Moombahton, it’s its impact on the dancefloors” and there is certain to be some impact on the dancefloors from these new joints on the compilation.

Highlights for me are The Mane Things Bring Ya Booty, and J-Tricks Bumbaclot, not to mention my own track with my buddy Gilsun. Check out our track Oh! in full below, and go grab the whole EP for peanuts over here.

SCM:014 Congo Tardis #1 – Number One

Scattermusic is proud to announce its 14th official release, a super heavy three track EP by Melbourne group Congo Tardis #1. Drawing on the genres which have dominated their DJ sets over the past few years such as Reggaeton, Dancehall, Kwaito, Shangaan Electro and more, Congo Tardis #1 bring together uplifting flavors from all over the globe to create something that’s truly unique. Steel drums ride the snap of cheap snares, carnival keys pulse over white noise sweeps, the vocals are fragmented yet the message is obvious, tune in your speaker, put the lime in the coconut, pump up the tweeter, don’t worry, it’ll make much more sense on the dancefloor.

The release also features appearances from three close friends. Marawa the Amazing, the worlds most incredible hula hoop performer (check this link if you don’t believe us) lends her vocal talents on Sweet Lime. MC Damaja, one of Melbourne’s finest dancehall MCs contributes the rather warped vocal hooks for the lead track Wild n’ Ready. Finally, musical extroadinare, relentless blogger, radio personality and all round good guy Faux Pas contributes with his remix of Doala, influenced by the ultra high tempos of African Shangaan music.

01: Wild ‘n’ Ready FT Damajah

02: Sweet Lime FT Marawa the Amazing
