Sip Sip

July 20th, 2010

These tracks went down real hard in the club the other night. It was actually one of those nights filled with a bunch of exclusives and unfinished demos from us and other soon-to-be-released people from the label that went down like wild fire. We got excited (lewis got real excited, i got footage to prove) the crowd got excited and it was all fun.

Both of these were originally made as edits for our club sets, but seem to have gotten a bunch of attention and requests from people to get em so we thought it was time to throw em out for free.

First off is Lewis CanCut’s fucken hot horn tune. Filled with his trademark percussion and stabs, it screws and bends a horn hook while referencing notes reminiscent a “Spraycan”. This one is like my favourite tune at the moment, i’m playing it every set and it comes highly recommended.
Oh and it’s a riddim/redo of his original remix of Harmon ft The Psyde Projects which can be bought @ Beatport.

Lewis CanCut – Sip Sip Riddim

The other one is my do of “Push It“, which i chucked up on soundcloud recently and watched it get a thousand plays in a couple of days- so thought it needed a post. I had the idea for the mix for a bit… Basically i just redid the main hook with a big 808 kick, rearranged the song to make it more current and cut up a vocal snippet to make a sorta synth line. It fits perfectly into my sets and i’ve found a bunch of ways to mix it which are fun – notably with that Dubbel Dutch remix of “Pimp Jackson” and with the new Zinc heater, “Nexx”.

Salt n’ Pepa – Push It (Scattermish Remix)

Push It

June 7th, 2010

I made this lil edit of Salt n Pepa’s infamous, remixed a million times (yeah i know), played a billion times hit, “Push It”. Just really for a bit of fun to play out. I’ve essentially replayed the main hook with a kick drum, and then cut up some vox here and there…

I chucked it up on my soundcloud, then all of a sudden it had 1000 plays. So i might get it mastered then chuck it round blogs, for now:

Sweet, so we starting off this podcast series as Slap & Dash and it feels all-too-right. The series will grow in coming months with a Cumbia Cosmonauts Cumbia themed mix, a Scattermish Emotronic mix and then a megamix of all plenty of our label tracks new, old and never-to-be-released by Mu-Gen.

Get the gist? All mixes will be more than just everyday mixes – most will have a theme, most will be crafted especially for the series, most will be by Scattermusic artists.

On to Podcast #1 – The Slap & Dash mix – the one that we did for the amazing Discobelle Mixin It Up Series. It’s pretty epic and there’s hours upon hours of blood sweat and tears that went into creating this mix. All Slap & Dash mixes are made for live use s0 they’re all made for the dancefloor and we feel like they work as a big show rather than just a DJ set… Every second is covered in this set, everything is meticulously crafted, and there is no minute left in the mix that hasn’t been carefully thought out.

As much as we love freestyling, we really like to look at our shows from an almost band-like perspective and think about putting on the best show and experience we can. So we’ll literally sit in the studio for hours upon end working at cue points, song structures and live remixes that we can do to mold tracks together. Every DJs favourite friend Serato and Traktor Scratch make this mix possible – ie. mixing a new song within one beat of the last finishing, setting multiple cue points and jumping to whichever part of the song we like, writing in notes about how to play each song. But on top of that there’s that old thing; practice, practice, practice.

With all the tracks we’ve included, the mix is obviously very mash – but we try to make it not feel so. Hopefully it turns out as almost more of a giant song rather than a mix.

(For a blurb and full tracklist description Mixin It Up style, head to Discobelle Post.)

hold-hands-face-mask

This is a mega old edit/mash i did (like back in mid 2007, woah!). Anyway, someone called lee posted a comment on the original post, asking if i could re-upload the track and i was all like “shiiit, i forgot about this thang”. Re-listened to it, and it’s actually really relevant to today’s sound- so here’s a dedicated post with it again. I finally found out who The Yank is too. Edit also features Spank Rock x Amanda Blank.
Be sure to check out The Yank on beatport for the original of this tune (also peep his remix of “Inside The Speaker”, rad!)

God damnit time flies, 2010 bitches!

Oh and a bonus, this video:: (at first your like “woah- so many samples in here!” Then the dude just cuts sick)

So, here’s my remix of Riva Starr’s I Was Drunk. Put it up here a bit ago to listen to, but the comp is finished and i didn’t win… so download time! It’s been working well for me in clubs lately, hope it does for you too.

This complete heater of a tune from the always present, always astonishing Douster has just come out on Exploited Records. He’s reworked a classic sample to delight and added some trademark Douster drums and rolls, then there’s a great ragga-ish vocal over the top that’s all-too-appealing.
Be sure to grab the whole release, Malente & Dex’s “Bangkok” featuring Bonde Do Role and a slue of remixes over at beatport and other stores.

Malente & Dex feat New Kidz Lions (Douster Remix)

Oh and if you feel like a bonus track, i put up my Gunshot Edit of my old project, Digital Manges’ “Future Boy” up at the Scattermish Soundcloud:

[SBM-001] Mat Cant, Scattermish - HornboCover art by Paz

Man, soo excited that this has come out! It marks our first official release, and the beginning of an empire, haha. It’s already been getting a bunch of plays on radio in the US, here, UK etc., and played by the likes of Sinden, Diplo, Neoteric, Ajax and Act Yo Age to name but a few.
As you’ve probably heard, we’re giving away all our releases for FREE! You’ll be able to grab every release here, on the blog as they’re released. And there’s gonna be some shit-hot releases in the next few months. Our release schedule features original releases by some great internationals that we’re such big fans of; Edu K, Dubbel Dutch and Dirtybeats, then we’ll be pushing some locals that need to be heard like Lewis CanCut, Tranterco, Cumbia Cosmonauts, Paz and Slap & Dash (ft Spoek). Seriously the tunes and (massive) remixes are shaping up so well, i can’t wait until we release them all! Gonna be a busy 2010 @ Scatterblog… Anyway……

Mat Cant and Scattermish are two names that are not shy to air horns, basslines, hype drums and parties. With Hornbo they’ve managed to incorporate all that into a dancefloor anthem that gets rowdy with a series of horn stabs, frenetic drums, drops and breakdowns.

The remixes come from Sticky K, who has flipped the tune into a big-room storm for the dance floor, Yacht Club who have weirded it out and made it even more hype, The Hump Day Project who have sent the bassline rolling and the guns shooting giving it a tech feel and Paz who has turned it into a 150bpm ghetto house bonanza!

On The D-Low

September 18th, 2009

I’ve been working on the new blog layout, adding the finalising touches – by the way if you haven’t heard us mention, we’ll be launching a new website and the label at the same time, around Oct 24th (Rob Threezy show @ The Espy), so you’ll have to update your rss feeds. Or you might have heard us mention it a million times, well now it’s there baby… Anyway so i was working on the “Scatterblog Radio” part of the website where we will have all the podcasts and mixes and etc., was writing in the dates of my mixes, and realised the last one i’d put up was from all the way back in 2007!!! What the hell right? 2 years! – which is especially weird because a lot of the readership from here used to follow my mixes…
So anyway i have recorded a couple of mixes in the last couple of weeks. I wasn’t going to post them because they aren’t really finished and not really properly crafted, but are rather a few tracks i’d worked out to go together to play live. These mixes are just one takes – so i could listen to them and see what was wrong with them and all that. With that said, i actually quite like them, and the recording was pretty good, there aren’t too many mess ups or dead spots – they could do with some more tweaking and a better record, but meh. So here i am, fuck it, lets post em.

This first mix i did just this week. I saved the set i did last weekend when we supported Santiago (& Bushido) at The Espy. I decided to make those mixes into a proper set, and added a few more bits. It’s kinda like a partied up, slightly more accessible version of the type of tech that seems to be getting people going at the moment, and that i do really love…

Scattermish – Glow Sticks At The Carnival
Tracklist:
Skinny Fabulous – Soca Fire Riddim
Rico Tubbs – Work this
Klingenberg – T (Dave Darell Remix)

Bingo Players – Get Up (Diplo Remix)
DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto – Con Alegria (Solo ‘more Cowbell’ Remix)

And this one i recorded when i was just starting to really get into dutch house. So it’s real blip blip and hype. I dig it – has gone off if i’ve played it at a cluby club:

So this is the second drop from the “Music For Hustlers Album” for ya’ll. Some are bootlegs, some are remixes and others are OG’s. The OG’s will be released here along with remixes from a bunch a talented cats from across the globe.

This drop is a un-official remix from Lewis, Scatters and myself (Mu-Gen). This track had more changes than any thing else I have worked on. It went through the hands of all three of us and morphed into something completely different each time. Scatters started it off as a bugged out electro swing joint, Lewis flipped it into some ghetto drum shit, and I got to work on it last, adding the other stuff like vocals and what not. Bass lines, speeds, arrangements and pretty much everything else was flipped on each exchange. I did not hear scatters original version until i finished the track. I nearly wet my pants at the difference.

Anyway it’s our own Scatterblog remix on the Killa Queenz Bitches number. When the promo of this release came our way via Ooh-ee it had the acca attached. “Bingo I’m using it”. The girls are so on point at the moment. I have always loved their work and it seems that after a whole bunch of time they are getting the attention both locally and worldwide that they deserve. The recent Bitches release on Sweat It Out saw a whole bunch of crazy remixes by the creme de la creme of electronic producers both here and O.S. My fav was either the Zombie Disco Squad or Ooh-Ee versions which are both getting high rotation in all our sets.

The release is available online through beatport right now. Go here if you wanna get hold of some of the hyped up tunes I’m talking about. Also on beatport is the rest of the Sweat It Out catalogue. Bout time we had local shit killing it world wide.

SCATTERBLOG EDU K SHOW REPORT

February 26th, 2009

Well for anyone who was there thank you, for the people that were not, you missed out big time. Last Saturday was pretty much one of the most rad gigs I have ever been a part of.

The party started at around ten with Lewis Cancut (aka Bobby Sock Girl) opening things up. The little fella walked out, threw his hands in the air, yelled some abuse at the crowd, then proceeded to play one crazy as fuck world/hip hop set. I play at the ESPY a lot and have never seen that many people getting down to the first dj, pretty much as soon as he started. Kudos Lewis, Kudos.

The venue just kept filling up more and more as Mat Cant & Paz hyped the dance floor. Both dudes know how to kill a party (in the good sense of the word). Mat was on his b’more, party town vibe making people sweat, whilst Paz tore up the world/club joints to a salivating crowd. I have never had so many people ask me “what’s that track?” before, as they did when Paz was doing his thing.

Next up was Scattermish and I (Mu-Gen) doing the Slap & Dash thing. By this stage the ESPY was full at a little over 1000 people. We have been working on this 4 deck mash up set for about 8 months now and have just recently updated it. It was pretty much the first time we have nailed it from start to finish (soooo chuffed). Which ain’t easy to do when you mix around 130 joints in about 60 min’s. For the last 15 min’s of the Slap & Dash set Angie & Keaton Bale from Digital Manges hit the mic’s…… EPIC……. This is where shit hit boiling point. I don’t think anyone expected a debut performance like that. Manges Rule. The show was stepped up a notch at this point with our good friend, and booty dancer extrodanair Zoe, who killed it on the stage during the Manges set (you can see just how hard she is working in the pic underneath). It’s always nice when you walk off the stage and you have someone like Edu K say “Whoa, I ain’t seen anything like that in 5yrs..”

Which brings us to the final act, EDU K. What happens when you add an out of control wild crowd with a bat shit crazy Brazilian? Toooo much fun that’s what. Edu K is the bomb. He was punching the air, rolling round on the ground playing air guitar, letting women from the audience scratch the decks with their titties. Anything to make the party wild. The dude played a pretty heavy fidget/zombie rave set that was making people get stoopid. Def the highlight of my night was when Hunt from 1fish 2 fish fame attempted a stage dive to no success. SPLAT.

Again thanks to the 1000 or so people that turned up to support us on this one. Believe me, we have many more parties planned for the near future. And if the first two parties are anything to go by, they are only gonna keep getting bigger, better and more wild.

All pics were taken by Simon King. Thanks a buch dude…….

Peep This Shit…….!

February 11th, 2009

Well time is nearly nigh and a barrage of gutter hype is about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world. I don’t want to say much in this post cause I’m pretty sure the man and the brains (Scattermish) behind this new endeavour has something all meaningful and shit to say to you all about what is actually going on here.

All I’m writing about, as I get all proud and stuff, is to let you guys know about the new Scatterblog Music Myspace that has just been created by Mat Cant. It gives you a preview of some of the new joints to be released on our Real Music For Hustlers LP. We are trying to be completely self sufficient here these days, with Paz doing the art, and Scatters on one of the most tight masters no money can buy.

Everyone here has contributed in every way possible and I just wanna say it’s been a mad massive pleasure. Big ups and thank you to everyone involved, especially Scattermish.

Now what kind of low life would I be if i didn’t give you something to make you wanna dance… Not off the album I’m talking about, but right on point with my own deff of gutter hype. I’m sure ya’ll heard Blaqstarr’s Handz Up number. Well if that was not dope enough peep this remix by Trey Duece who delivers one of my favourite party raps of the moment. Full blown loose your shit, mad time, crazy dance bulldust. It’s on my new mix tape, so I claim it first. Ha di ha ha ha

60 in the club

January 30th, 2009

That’s about how hot it is (Celsius for all those stuck in Fahrenheit) just about anywhere in melbs atm. Man if you’re in the sun it’s die time. We’re assured that first floor has actually got some good cooling systems on so that’s something to look forward too, will be fun to get outta hot houses. On top of that this show has all your favorite Scatterblog DJs pumpin out all the sounds we’ve grown to love.
There’s a facebook event if ya want some more details.
Slap & Dash bringit!

On the download side of things i thought i’d put up a couple more joints that i’ve had something to do with – anyone getting bored of me posting my own tunes yet? or bring it?

The first jawn i’ve been dropping in my sets lately, and it’s been goin down pretty well on the hype music side of things. I’ve been going thru all, and i mean ALL of my mp3s lately (taking aaaages) and deleting all the things i don’t play out (i’ll have an obscurity of it all post coming up soon too, remember those?) – anyway going thru all them tunes means i’m finding some bangers which i’ve forgotten about, or managed to just look over in the past.
In comes the Rico Tubbs album. Originally i was all about Gangsters and Ghetto Funk Baby, but now i’m totally all about Work This, Slap The Bass and It Get’s No Better – the latter which i’ve made a “scattermish hype edit” of. I’ve just made it drop better, added some more vocals and cut it up somewhat – basically just tried to get some more energy in it.
To re-live the glory of this album, grab it at beatport, and look out for Knuckle Sandwich Remixed which should be dope, and will see a release in march!

Rico Tubbs – It Get’s No Better (scattermish Hype Edit) (alt preview link)

Then we got the original Digital Manges – Give Me A Reason tune which has been doing some rounds on promo. Play it loud and look for the next EP coming out real soon. Grab the whole EP/single and remixes at beatport. Also we’re doing a really short live show at the Scatterblog MP3 release party/Edu K show at the espy – but more on that closer to the date

I Ain’t Wid It

December 3rd, 2008

There’s a brand spanking new Palms Out Sounds (POS-005) release. It’s by fellow Melbournian Digital Primate and the EP’s taken on an almost-all-Melbourne playlist. There’s 3 original tracks on there with a lot of remixes:
- I Ain’t Wid It with remixes by Scatterbloggers Paz and scattermish, along with more by Mikix The Cat (you check his Outlaw track!?), Dee Dee and Acid Jacks.
- I Don’t Give A Fuck with remixes by Boody B, Resin Dogs and Harmon.
- On Da Radio with an Andy Van Damage & Ooh-Ee remix.

Digital Primate is getting his hands real dirty working on projects under some different monikers. He’s started his Turntable Spoilsports label among other things, so keep an eye out for all that.

Since we’re proud bloggers, we got the ok to hand you up our two remixes from the EP. Paz’s one is drumtastic, filled with hollas and rolls, and my one is me doing a hip hop thang, with vocal spills, a bunch of drums and some serious bass. I reckon the mastering got fucked up a bit on mine, and you got that problem where everything gets sucked whenever the bass comes in, so if it pisses ya off send me a msg and i’ll shoot you the original.

Anyway dope release, and palms out is quickly cementing itself as a killer label. Grab it over at beatport, itunes, juno and other download places.

This beat’s got heat

November 15th, 2008

Here’s my latest remix for you. It’s been used as the club song/promo or something like that for the release. The tune is by RHYS, who got his shot at fame as one of the finalists on so you think you can dance. I think the tune is gonna get lots of support, and be featured on channel 10 as their summer song apparently. Hopefully the remix does well too. Post it, share it, play it do whatever. Gimme some feedback if you like it.

I basically stripped down the vocal, and just kept the chorus, and cut up some of the words and had a play.
I resampled the drum loop, and made it push and suck. Then layered them a lot to give them a bit more of an almost African swing (yeah i been listening to way too much Buraka), beefed them up something too.
The bassline is totally scattermish, except this is one i didn’t make, and decided to use a preset for once. But as they say, “if the glove fits”.
And yeah on top of that there’s another fun synth i had in my head at the time, that’s a bit more big room.

The track is fit for the club, that’s about it. Check it out. I’ve put up the club dub due to popular demand (aka the few people i’ve given to it wanted it as an option).

You know how we do this

November 3rd, 2008

This is the remix i did of Kelevra and Bryan Cox for Crux Records. Mastered version, it’s been getting some play by some DJs to good response. It’s one of my flip mixes which is a thing i do with some songs where i try and make em change throughout, kinda like a mini mix – but extra flowing, so it’s not like the song changes completely or anything, just evolves.
Anyway play it, share it, do whatever the fuck you like with it ;) The rest of the release can be bought here if you want it. The mastering turned out weird, but the song has value at times.
I’ll put up more tunes soon enuf, i reckon you’ll like some of the new tings.
