edu k

So I’ll make this brief as it’s really late Friday night but the story goes something like this. Little over a year ago we threw down a Melbourne party to celebrate our first release as a collective of dj/producers and as the esteemed Edu K was passing through at the time it was only right that he should headline the gig. Since then that loose collective has morphed into a fully fledged record label with it’s second release produced as you probably know by Edu K himself. Now he’s back for another massive night and everything feels somehow complete. Anyhow I’m not one for sentiment but if your in town tomorrow then we’ll definitely see you in the Espy front bar (Freeee entry!) for what’s set to be one epic show. Support comes courtesy of Slap n Dash, Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Mat Cant and Cassette (Syd).

Edu K plays at The Esplanade Hotel in the front bar for free, Saturday 27/03/10.

Here’s a preview of what to expect.

Also, I know the photo is really old but it’s so rad I had to use it.

Shit Robot is the shit.

Shitty ass robot

Shit Robot is like one of those ever elusive characters in dance music but maybe thats just due to a lack of online content, hard to tell sometimes you know. The history I remember hearing is that Marcus Lambkin (SR) originally worked in punk circles until James Murphy lent him a bunch of old drum machines and let him figure it out. While that’s probably fiction, it would explain the raw dancefloor sound sounds he’s become associated with over the years (rockers make notoriously great dj’s such as Edu-K and Dave Nada). It’d probably be more accurate for me to just say Marcus met James while running club nights in New York and well, the rest is DFA history. Wrong Galaxy, his first record going back a few years, blew minds with it’s mix of rough drums and loud arpeggiated synths but it was this remix of Kaoss Panopeeps that first put him on my radar (buy). If I had a nightclub based on a disused space station drifting through distant galaxies that’d be my soundtrack. Here’s a little something else he sent through for us to anticipation up his upcoming Scatterfest appearance. It’s his burning remix of ‘No Time’ by Juan Maclean, get it while it’s hot.

Juan Maclean – No Time (Shit Robot remix) (ysi)

Shit Robot and others play at Scatterfest with full Scatterblog support, Saturday 30th of January here in Melbourne at the Esplanade Hotel. Tickets are just 20+bf and are available Espy online, from the Espy Bottle shop, Polyester Records, Missing Link and Northside Records.

devro

I love this time of year, the weather starts to get warmer, the beers are flowing and it seems like every weekend we have another International guest in town to provide the soundtrack to our summer. This Friday I’ve got the chance to support the man behind the world famous Mad Decent label, Paul Devro and I’m pumped for it! Paul is coming out to Australia for the Diesel Xmas party at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney and word has it he is bringing Maluca out with him. Its all going down in Melbourne on Friday downstairs at the Mercat Cross Hotel with support from myself Mat Cant, Steezy, Tranter and Team Opulent and entry is only $10.

Heres a old Paul Devro track i pulled out of the vault for your collection, i have been known to reach out and play this quite a bit, always a crowd favourite

Saturday is the next Scatterblog presents party this time featuring the one and only mad man Rico Tubbs! Rico smashed the good vibrations festival last year and now he’s back to do it all again. I wont write anymore about this night because there has already been a post all about the event, but instead i will give you his new remix he has just done for Tittsworth, classic Rico Tubbs right here so if you love your squelchy wobble basslines this ones for you.

BONUS

I just finished uploading this so i thought i might as well post it now… A couple of weeks ago I went up to Sydney for the weekend to play some gigs and my set at world bar was so well received i thought i would re-record my set i did that night and post it up as a mix for everyone to enjoy. There are a couple of cheeky edits in there as well as some new tracks that will be coming out on scattermusic very soon! I will put the tracklist in the comments section too, hope you enjoy it

Mat Cant – Wham! @ World Bar Sydney Mix (14/11/09)

Also watch out for the next Scattercam video from our Hornbo release party with Rob Threezy to be released in the next day or two

Rico Tubbs started with a boom, back in 2002 on Menu music when the debut 12″ p-funk inspired fartbass anthem “Flashlighter” was released. That opened the flood gates for steady flow of bassheavy party beats. Blending various genres of dance music and combining them under one big party banner of bass, some essential “Ricos Rave Juice” ingredients include: Fidget House, Speed Garage/Bassline, Baltimore, Indiedance/Electro, Olskool Rave & Dubstep.

His Debut LP “Knuckle Sandwich” was a big mover, and got plenty of blogs, DJs and reviewers hooked. His party-style bass music has seen him release original tunes on leading electronic music labels Cheap Thrills, Menu Music and A New Hope Records. He has now also started up his own label with Atomic Hooligan, Bass = Win.

With his DJing being nothing shy of awesome, Rico has received much accolade and applause at every turn. He was voted the best electronic music DJ in Finland for 2006 & 2007 and has played to massive crowds all over the globe.

Scatterblog will bring the rain for this show with extra support from Slap & Dash (with a huge new set), Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Lewis CanCut and Mat Cant. Free Entry! 10pm-3am.

Rob Threezy exploded onto the scene with his cut up, philly-club rave-anthem, “The Chase” which was featured on the Brick Bandits EP put out on Mad Decent. He’s a certified member of both Chicago’s Ghetto Division and the Infamous Brick Bandits crew, and at just 20 years of age Rob3 already has a host of forward-thinking dance music tracks on Mad Decent, Nightshifters, T&A Records, 2 Hype Records and has remixed the likes of Diplo, Blaqstarr, DJ Mujava, Jokers Of The Scene, Daniel Haaksman and AC Slater to name a few. Threezy also has upcoming material scheduled for Compost, Fools Gold and OMG Records.
Into and producing so many great type of music, Rob3′s sets sound really exciting – the live show should be nothing short of gold.

The show will also mark the first official Scattermusic release of Mat Cant and Scattermish‘s hyped up, horn fueled track, “Hornbo”. The release comes packed with remixes by Sticky K, Yacht Club, The Hump Day Project and Paz and has been getting dancefloor love all over.

The show will be a night to remember, with extra support coming from Slap & Dash, Lewis CanCut, Mat Cant, Scattermish and Mu-Gen. AND DAMN IT’S FREE ENTRY AGAIN!!! Goes 10pm-3am.

There will also be some dodgy physical copies of the digital only release. And hold tight for the digital release which will come out, along with our new website on Oct 20th!

Foamo @ The Espy this Sat!

September 29th, 2009

This night is gonna be so ridiculously huge… It’s both Mu and Lewis’s birthday, so we’re all gonna be hell roudy, and partying all night then the next day. It’s after parklife, so there’s mad beats to keep you going after the day (if you got a ticket). It’s another god damn free party! And of course, it’s Foamo yo. This is him:
Foamo
’s sound has turned heads all over the world, scoring big remixes for the likes of Diplo & Laidback Luke, La Roux, Mystery Jets, Cagedbaby and Jack Beats to name a few. He has collaborated on original works with Detboi, and has had huge success with his originals “Moving It Over Here” (Cubism), “Wardance” (So Sweet), “Rockerman” and “Everything Cool” (Wearhouse).
He was nominated as best British breakthrough DJ 2008 by DJ Mag and said to be “One to watch 2009″ by NME Magazine and iDJ Magazine.
Scatterblog was the first blog to feature Foamo all the way back in 2007, and is happy to see this come full circle and put on the show for his first tour in Australia. Extra support comes from Slap & Dash, Mu-Gen, Lewis CanCut, Scattermish and Mat Cant for this one. Night goes on 10pm-3am.

King of the Mixtape

August 5th, 2009

This Saturday night the Espy front bar will be transformed as king of the mixtape game DJ Benzi takes over with full Scatterblog support. If you’ve spent the last few years locked in your grannies attic then you might not know but this guy has the mixtape world thoroughly on lock. I first became aware of the heat behind him a while back when Turntablelab were selling the Juke Jams mix and since then his output has shown no sign of slowing down. Entry is free so there is really no reason we wont see you there, unless of course your reading this somewhere far far way from Melbourne.

Thinking back to that Juke Jams mix here’s a sneaky little moment that will serve as a good introduction for some and a refresher for others. This is Rashad’s version of Move Back, which Benzi dropped exclusively.

We got that Boom Boom (damn, does that mean i just quoted something from BEP recent!?)
But like for reals, look at these two posters. And they’re only the beginning of the mayhem, akakaka plenty of more awesome names to come…
DJ Benzi has such a huge list of mixtapes, and is known for his mad DJ prowess, and Foamo is constantly being heralded as the next big thing in house music, with a huge sound and big basslines.
And yeah, again we bring em to you for free!!
Can’t wait, see you there ;)

I’m still recovering from the mega-bomb of Phiily club that Sega dropped on us here in Melbourne last week and I now find myself getting organized for yet another massive night. So big I don’t even know where to start actually, sitting at the computer feeling quite overwhelmed.

Anyhow here we go, tomorrow night is friday 5th and if you get to the Espy you will come across a full venue gig featuring the likes of…………deep breath: N.A.S.A, Dave Nada, Slap n’ Dash, Yacht Club Dj’s, Hump Day Project, Paz, Mat Cant, Opulent Dj’s and some really amateur guy named Lewis CanCut. Phew. If you’ve made to previous gigs Scatterblog has touched at the Espy you’ll know how things work. Basically there are no warm up acts, just a hype as all hell party from the time doors open.

As mentioned in an earlier post there will also be a series of N.A.S.A tracks remixed by members of Scatterblog, released right here as free downloads! This post brings you remix number one, my own version of Whatchadoin? feat MIA, Santogold, Nick Zinner and Spank Rock. Working with parts from such a dope selection of vocalists meant I had to keep pinching myself in the studio to check isht was real. Thanks N.A.S.A!

For anyone still without a ticket here’s the lowdown: $22 + Bf from espy.com.au, Oztix 1300 762 545, Espy Bottleshop, Polyester Records and Missing Link Records.

…..and here’s one more from the Sega vaults in anticipation of the show this Saturday. The fact that you can you can pull a track so deep from the back catalogue of a producer thats 22 years old is pretty frightening really. Ladies and gents I give you Sega’s interpretation of Cajmere’s Percolator.

I just had to put up the flyers for these. we’re helping the espy put on two MASSIVE shows.
DJ Sega (May 30th) is such a forward thinking force in club music, we’re all so into his stuff, it’s really exciting to have him play with us! All Scatterblog crew will be there and he’ll have some of his new cd with him too i hear!

The other bit of total hugeness is the Nasa and Dave Nada show (June 5th)!!! Nasa don’t really need much of an introduction as you’ve probably been seeing their tracks featuring everyone from Santigold to Tom Waits to The Wu-Tang Clan.
This one is going to be full venue, with lots of crazy acts and everything. Nada has already made his name a staple diet in Oz from previous shows, and going by some of the live videos i’ve seen of Nasa it’s gonna be a wild show (yes they’ll have dancers with them). Again all Scatterblog crew in support!

On top of all that hype, i’ve been speaking to Zegon (1/2 of Nasa) and they’re into what we’re doing with our music and what not and have given us bits to remix their tracks!! So expect some shit hot Scatterblog remixes of Nasa before the drop!!!

Detboi show giveaways

April 16th, 2009

So, this show is gonna be a killa!! Detboi is a long time favorite of the scatterblog. He’s got his own sound and his own style, and is developing with every track he does. It’s his first time over to Australia, so we just had to get all over the gig. It’s also our first “Scatterblog Presents…” party to be held at revolver, so that’s a big note as well.
To mark it all we’re gonna be giving away a limited run of USB sticks with some hot content. As mentioned below, expect some exclusive mixes (and some tracks you mighta missed) by all writers of the scatterblog, in some form. Then there’s also some tracks given up by detboi, Trevor Loveys and Scottie B. You gotta get a presale ticket for $15 thru moshtix to be eligable to get one of the sticks tho, as there’s only a limited amount. But considering it costs more than that to actually buy a memory stick, sounds pretty good to me. Otherwise i think tix will be between $15 and $25 on the door.
Big up, there’s a facebook event if you wanna keep updated. Here’s the official details on the usb and event:

EXCLUSIVE LATE SHOW USB FLASH DRIVES
We can finally reveal details of a little project thats been carefully put together by The Late Show, Scatterblog and Revolver Upstairs with generous contributions from our good friends Detboi, Trevor Loveys and Scottie B. In conjunction with the Detboi gig we will be releasing a limited run of exclusive Late Show USB flash drives with a jaw dropping array of exclusive bangers, mixes and live sets lovingly compiled for your listening pleasure. Much of the content included is yet to be released but will be distributed free to lucky recipients, preloaded onto spiffy 4GB USB flash drives which will be yours to keep!
HOW DO I GET ONE?
All you gotta do is grab yourself one of the limited release $15 presale tickets for the Detboi gig from moshtix. When you rock up you’ll be presented with your very own Late Show USB flash drive brimming with exclusive content ready to be jacked straight into your computer after the gig. There’s not many to go around so get on it fast!

Get em here: https://www.moshtix.com.au/event.aspx?id=26378

Word!
Now, where would we be without some detboi bigness to post too. This track’s leaning towards the harder side of his production… It’s got all the hectic chops, vocal cutups and pushed drum breaks, and then has a squelching rave synth to go with it…
