Philly Kuduro

September 21st, 2009

Another certified banger that came through our blog inbox recently was this lead single off Zakees’s upcoming EP titled Ku Ku Bass/The Rise of Anburley. The guy makes tough african club music but with his Philadelphian upbringing strongly audible, sounding like Dj Sega mixed with Dj Znobia. Your probably better off just following the link rather than having me give you anymore simplistic comparisons. Just know thats it’s hot and there is plenty more to be expected over Coming months. Zakee’s EP is out later this year through Green Owl Records.

CLUB CLUB – Retry

June 26th, 2009

I just realised that my last post got taken down so i thought i better throw it back up again but ill hide the mixtape tracklist in the comments section…

I had some spare time so i thought i would quickly post up a couple of things i have done over the last 2 weeks. The first one is a mix tape i did up before our show with DJ Sega in June (which btw was HUGE, thanks to everyone that came out for it!), its all club music and I’m really proud of it.

Mat Cant – Club Club Mixtape (direct link)

Ive sent it out to quite a few people over the last week but i havnt included the track list, so for those who want it you can find it in the comments section

Also here is a quick little edit i did of Rye Rye track “Bang”, make it funky y’all!

UUMMMPPPHHH. Sega is like Genos’ in Philly, dont leave town without checking it.

Sega Saturday Night does not mean a 50 sack, Doritos and Sonic Hedge Hog. It is the almighty Dj Sega of Philladelphia PA, throwing down the 130 bpm club heat at the Espy. I went with Dj Ransom and Kicks 79 to see Sega at a Brick Bandits throw down last year. The whole show was amazing and we caught Joe and Sega the next night who were in the process of recording material for Guns Garcia.

Guns Garcia doing the Philly Wu
(Left to Right) Paz , Ransom , Dirty South Joe, Dj Sega, Kicks 79

We bugged Joe and Sega for a CD to cruise back to NY with and we were handed this hyped mix, unfortunatly titled: Back For The Last Time.

So it wasnt for the last time at all as his current mix is bigger and badder than ever:
Dj Sega – New Jack Philly

His remix work is utter trucking:
Dj Sega – Hype Machine

I have found this works when I want to cross over a bit.
Laidback Luke and Steve Angello – Be (Dj Sega Remix)

A few links you should go discover:

Dj Sega – Twitter
Dj Sega – Myspace
Dj Sega – Live at the Bowery (via 5150)
(Great Interview and link to one of Sega’s recent sets)

And did I mention he is official Mad Decent:

So now go and check the huge remix packages that his Philly Club signature is all over:

Rye Rye ft M.I.A – Bang (Dj Sega Philly Club Remix)
(This is HHHUUUGGEEEE)

Fortune – Bully (Dj Sega Remix)
(Showcase his ClubheadsVs Rockheads remix stylee)

…..and here’s one more from the Sega vaults in anticipation of the show this Saturday. The fact that you can you can pull a track so deep from the back catalogue of a producer thats 22 years old is pretty frightening really. Ladies and gents I give you Sega’s interpretation of Cajmere’s Percolator.
