B-B-B-B-B-Balkan!!!

April 25th, 2010

This whole Balkan/Gypsy House sound is something i’ve definitely fallen in love with over the last year. I know it’s been around for years, but it feels like it did make a bit of a revival recently in terms of tracks being made (Riva Starr, Solo, Radioclit all get a nod but many many more people should be mentioned) and in terms of people getting into it again on the dance floor. I can’t say i’m always in the mood to play it but when it’s right, it’s right!

I feel like it has been underrepresented by me considering the amount i have been playing it, so here’s a few tunes which are often staple when i play balkan(ish) stuff

A big classic, “Klezmer” is kinda melow in terms of dance floor, but it’s so catchy and smooth it’s almost hard not to like… I like this Alvaro version most atm:

Pizeta feat. Reagadelica – Klezmer (Alvaro Arabic Nights Bootleg)

Radioclit recently did a remix for Balkan Beat Box and it’s a little bit all over the shop and full on. It’s also supa hype and fun:

Balkan Beat Box – Move It (Radioclit Remix)

If i get a bit more trippy and towards a weirder new house sound, this Style Of Eye tune is a killer. He’s so far up on his own level it’s not funny:

Style of Eye – Grounded

Going back to something classic, Buscemi’sSahib Balkan” is real slow, but feels right to get you in the mood.

Buscemi – Sahib Balkan

This M.In & Jones tune is a little bit weirder. Again along the lines of fun horns and bouncey movements.

M.In & Jonas – Balkan Style

A little extra on the end – Mastiksoul is the king his own rolling house sound. So happy and moving, fun and bouncey – he catches the essence of the Balkan sound whilst twisting it plenty to his own.

Juan Magan and Marcos Rodrigue – Bora Bora (Mastiksoul Remix)

The other two international guests to be featured tomorrow at Scatterfest are NASA and Mowgli – 1 has featured at an Scatterblog party earlier in the year, and the other has been a Scatterblog favourite since close to when we started out.

NASA’s debut album “The Spirit Of Apollo” got all kindsa heads turning (i think they were also most talked about act of 2009 on hypem?), featuring a whole range of big name vocalists. Their live show is filled with cut up and remashed music and visuals, some space costumes and accessories and a whole lotta hype – producing a huge individualistic and exciting show.

Mowgli on the other hand has been some1 who’s music Scatterblog has been in love with since way back when. His style has been ever evolving and he now really leads the market with his label Deadfish and their midget house sound.

Both of their shows will be explosive for totally different reasons. TONITE YO!

So there’s a last minute double double ticket giveaway! So i’ll make em easy.
For one double pass, just answer what Mowgli’s alias is.
For another, name 6 people that featured on NASA’s Spirit Of Apollo album.
Only one double pass per person.
