Back From Summer Vacation

January 11th, 2010

Jungle

Just before the end of the year I put this mix together as a farewell to 2009, before the thing got posted though I ended up disapearing into the tropical depths of Australia’s north-east for a much needed break (This photo is actually taken about 5 minutes away from where I was staying by dj Ms Butt). Anyway though about the mix, I guess it was a summery of the sound I have DJing over the last few months, perhaps with a slight nod of where things might go in 2010. Everyone seems to once again be getting a little too comfortable, maybe meaning the whole scene is going to soon flip again.

devro

I love this time of year, the weather starts to get warmer, the beers are flowing and it seems like every weekend we have another International guest in town to provide the soundtrack to our summer. This Friday I’ve got the chance to support the man behind the world famous Mad Decent label, Paul Devro and I’m pumped for it! Paul is coming out to Australia for the Diesel Xmas party at the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney and word has it he is bringing Maluca out with him. Its all going down in Melbourne on Friday downstairs at the Mercat Cross Hotel with support from myself Mat Cant, Steezy, Tranter and Team Opulent and entry is only $10.

Heres a old Paul Devro track i pulled out of the vault for your collection, i have been known to reach out and play this quite a bit, always a crowd favourite

Paul Devro – Walk The Dino (Mediafire) (alt link)

Saturday is the next Scatterblog presents party this time featuring the one and only mad man Rico Tubbs! Rico smashed the good vibrations festival last year and now he’s back to do it all again. I wont write anymore about this night because there has already been a post all about the event, but instead i will give you his new remix he has just done for Tittsworth, classic Rico Tubbs right here so if you love your squelchy wobble basslines this ones for you.

Tittsworth feat Nina Sky & Pitbull – Here He Comes (Rico Tubbs Remix) (Mediafire) (alt link)

BONUS

I just finished uploading this so i thought i might as well post it now… A couple of weeks ago I went up to Sydney for the weekend to play some gigs and my set at world bar was so well received i thought i would re-record my set i did that night and post it up as a mix for everyone to enjoy. There are a couple of cheeky edits in there as well as some new tracks that will be coming out on scattermusic very soon! I will put the tracklist in the comments section too, hope you enjoy it

Mat Cant – Wham! @ World Bar Sydney Mix (14/11/09)

Also watch out for the next Scattercam video from our Hornbo release party with Rob Threezy to be released in the next day or two

Rico Tubbs started with a boom, back in 2002 on Menu music when the debut 12″ p-funk inspired fartbass anthem “Flashlighter” was released. That opened the flood gates for steady flow of bassheavy party beats. Blending various genres of dance music and combining them under one big party banner of bass, some essential “Ricos Rave Juice” ingredients include: Fidget House, Speed Garage/Bassline, Baltimore, Indiedance/Electro, Olskool Rave & Dubstep.

His Debut LP “Knuckle Sandwich” was a big mover, and got plenty of blogs, DJs and reviewers hooked. His party-style bass music has seen him release original tunes on leading electronic music labels Cheap Thrills, Menu Music and A New Hope Records. He has now also started up his own label with Atomic Hooligan, Bass = Win.

With his DJing being nothing shy of awesome, Rico has received much accolade and applause at every turn. He was voted the best electronic music DJ in Finland for 2006 & 2007 and has played to massive crowds all over the globe.

Scatterblog will bring the rain for this show with extra support from Slap & Dash (with a huge new set), Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Lewis CanCut and Mat Cant. Free Entry! 10pm-3am.

Kinda blog diary……eewww

October 25th, 2009

1174035135_b6fce6f2ab_o

Lately I have been real busy in the studio with Scatters finishing off some new Slap & Dash production, including a remix for Edu K’s ep coming out through Scattermusic, also working on our new Slap & Dash 4 deck,  plus adding some more Mu remix love on Lewis Cancut’s ep which will surprise a whole bunch of cats. The boy is a little genius. This is the first and last time I’m going to post something up like its a blog diary, but i kinda wanna share. In my hiatus I did a whole bunch of production mixes and edits for fashion shows around the country. I get a fair bit of this work and its always fun as you get to explore the different shades of electronic music. It’s kinda shaping the way i see music now, dance music especially. I’m looking for a bit more than just a hook. I’m finding myself deep in the arrangements of music. Anyway blah fucking blah. To sum it up I’m using arrangements and samples from 60-70’s world records and adding them to modern electronica to make some pretty fun stuff. More for the listen than the play out, but I figure I would share what I have been doing to excuse my no-posting for the last couple of months. Also for the club heads is my 15min mix I did for a dj comp in Melbourne a little bit back. This is a live practice from the day before so excuse some mistakes. In the end I didn’t win. Ripped off i tellz ya.. Nah, well done to Spacey who did.

Mu-Gen Dhini RAFW ‘09 (DOWNLOAD)

No track list available for this one as its real short (like 5mins) and choc full of samples. Prob my favourite fashion mix I have made of late. The brief i worked with had key words like tribal and marching drums. The start of the show had a live marching band drummer playing along until the main drop where i sampled buraka. Was mad fun to work with  a live musician on a piece of work I’m really proud of.

Mu-Gen – Trimapee 09 (MFW) DOWNLOAD

This mix was so much fun to put together. I always do Trimapee’s show music and have a really good relationship with the guys who run it. They pretty much give a brief and let me run with what I want. This mix had a crazy brief, industrial, Arabic, historical and modern. WTF right? It took a bit of planning but i think I nailed it.
TRACKLIST:
1. Ahmed Abdule-Malik- Rooh (the soul)
2. Metronomy –Night Out
3. Fulgeance –Haggis (Mu-Gen Takseem edit)
4. Harmonic 313 – Quadrant 3

Mu-Gen – Absolute 15 djcomp (practice mix) DOWNLOAD
So I won this comp a couple of years ago and was pretty keen to do it again this year. This happened around the time of the Major Lazer album drop earlier this year so i thought with all the hype around I would do a Major Lazer inspired mix. The way I would describe this is Carnival rave party with a dash of surf rock…

Douster goes Triassic!

October 18th, 2009

Yes yes yes, Douster owns us… We’ve been hanging to get our hands on the full version of his latest EP on ZZK Records, “Triassic”, which shows him going back to prehistoric times and imagining the soundtrack of a life during that fabled dinosaur era. With “raw rhythms, primitive melodies and cavemen chants that sound from a world when the land masses were connected, (Douster is) shedding borders and grooving primitively to his strain of electronic music. Sounds like fun yeah? Especially when Douster says that this image inspired him.

Be sure to pick up the EP, out Oct 20th (same release date as Hornbo, whoop!)
For now, here’s the teaser to download:

Douster – Triassic EP Teaser

and damn, how cool is the teaser video!?!?:

Also if you missed his last mix (for ZZK, an entire mix of his original productions) which blew us all away (seriously, a total MUST listen) – we posted it exclusively on the Scatterblog Facebook page – then here is his latest mix, a podcast for XLR8R which also has a total element of awesome. This one sees him pushing through more of a sorta afrojacked club teritory, but still throwing in the odd hip-hop/dancehall jam, a bit of tropical and some originals- shaking the mix to be totes Douster…
TRACK TIP: listen in for Douster’s Malente & Dex remix of Lions (track 08), absolute heater and my pic of the bunch.

And shit, we can’t go all this way with out giving you a straight up MP3 track can we? Check out Douster’s track “Alleluja” which has been dominating my sets of all different genres as of late:

Douster – Alleluja

Rob Threezy exploded onto the scene with his cut up, philly-club rave-anthem, “The Chase” which was featured on the Brick Bandits EP put out on Mad Decent. He’s a certified member of both Chicago’s Ghetto Division and the Infamous Brick Bandits crew, and at just 20 years of age Rob3 already has a host of forward-thinking dance music tracks on Mad Decent, Nightshifters, T&A Records, 2 Hype Records and has remixed the likes of Diplo, Blaqstarr, DJ Mujava, Jokers Of The Scene, Daniel Haaksman and AC Slater to name a few. Threezy also has upcoming material scheduled for Compost, Fools Gold and OMG Records.
Into and producing so many great type of music, Rob3’s sets sound really exciting – the live show should be nothing short of gold.

The show will also mark the first official Scattermusic release of Mat Cant and Scattermish’s hyped up, horn fueled track, “Hornbo”. The release comes packed with remixes by Sticky K, Yacht Club, The Hump Day Project and Paz and has been getting dancefloor love all over.

The show will be a night to remember, with extra support coming from Slap & Dash, Lewis CanCut, Mat Cant, Scattermish and Mu-Gen. AND DAMN IT’S FREE ENTRY AGAIN!!! Goes 10pm-3am.

There will also be some dodgy physical copies of the digital only release. And hold tight for the digital release which will come out, along with our new website on Oct 20th!

On The D-Low

September 18th, 2009

I’ve been working on the new blog layout, adding the finalising touches – by the way if you haven’t heard us mention, we’ll be launching a new website and the label at the same time, around Oct 24th (Rob Threezy show @ The Espy), so you’ll have to update your rss feeds. Or you might have heard us mention it a million times, well now it’s there baby… Anyway so i was working on the “Scatterblog Radio” part of the website where we will have all the podcasts and mixes and etc., was writing in the dates of my mixes, and realised the last one i’d put up was from all the way back in 2007!!! What the hell right? 2 years! – which is especially weird because a lot of the readership from here used to follow my mixes…
So anyway i have recorded a couple of mixes in the last couple of weeks. I wasn’t going to post them because they aren’t really finished and not really properly crafted, but are rather a few tracks i’d worked out to go together to play live. These mixes are just one takes – so i could listen to them and see what was wrong with them and all that. With that said, i actually quite like them, and the recording was pretty good, there aren’t too many mess ups or dead spots – they could do with some more tweaking and a better record, but meh. So here i am, fuck it, lets post em.

This first mix i did just this week. I saved the set i did last weekend when we supported Santiago (& Bushido) at The Espy. I decided to make those mixes into a proper set, and added a few more bits. It’s kinda like a partied up, slightly more accessible version of the type of tech that seems to be getting people going at the moment, and that i do really love…

Scattermish – Glow Sticks At The Carnival
Tracklist:
Skinny Fabulous – Soca Fire Riddim
Rico Tubbs – Work this
Klingenberg – T (Dave Darell Remix)
Will Bailey – Hustlin And Scratchin
Erick Rincon – Magdalena (Exclusiva Gales) (african beats)
Solo – Congaloid
Sharkslayer – Bad Ding
Fao vs. Chuckie – Bass Kick In Miami (Inphinity’s WMC 09 Remix)
Twocker – Ruffneck (Riva Starr Remix)
Sidney Samson – Riverside (Afrojack Remix)
Laidback Luke and A-Trak – Shake It Down
Solo – Afreaka
FM Audio – Killer (Afrojack Remix)
Solo – The Big Stef
Erik Bo & Tony Will – Funk Addict (Clark Able RMX)
Silvio Ecomo & Chuckie – Moombah (Afrojack Remix)
Loco Dice – Pimp Jackson Is Talkin’ Now (dubbel dutch bootleg)
Diplo & Laidback Luke – Hey
Act Yo Age – Lucky 13 (Straight Mix)
Laidback Luke – Generation Noise (Riva Starr Rechunk)
Bingo Players – Get Up (Diplo Remix)
DJ Gregory & Gregor Salto – Con Alegria (Solo ‘more Cowbell’ Remix)

And this one i recorded when i was just starting to really get into dutch house. So it’s real blip blip and hype. I dig it – has gone off if i’ve played it at a cluby club:

Scattermish – Dutchy Practice Session
Tracklist:
De Bos – On The Run (Ralvero Get Down Remix)
Seductive and Rishi Romero – Horns Up
Style Of Eye -  Road Race
The Martin Brothers -  Dum (Nat Self Remix)

Momma’s Boy – Give It Up
Idiotproof – Gorilla (Siriusmo’s Ass Of The Baboon Remix)
Major Lazer -  Jump Up feat. Leftside & Supahype Co-Produced By The Crookers
Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Pondo (Chuckie & Silvio Ecomo Mix)
SonicC – Stickin’
Riva Starr – House Music
Crookers – Funk Mundial (Rene Kuppens Remix)

A Night Slugs Sweat

September 16th, 2009

I’ve totally gotten into mix tapes again. I’m finding lots of good ones again and i’m finding a lot more with some purpose and energy. I’m totally into one’s that are either genre-specific, or you know, sound-specific, so i go for them a lot. I still cant stand those sorta “april mix” style things usually, you know, whatever hot tunes are in the blog charts for the month, unless they’re from some1 i already know and respect, usually. I’m obviously looking for a range of tracks/artists i don’t know in a mix, but just enuf that i do know to draw me in. I’m also into just good mixes and mashes in a mix – but that’s kinda hard for me to know, so doesn’t usually dictate weather i will bother downloading and listening to a mix.

This mix from the Night Slugs fits in with just about everything i’ve mentioned above. It’s on a grimey throwback/bringback, uk funky sorta vibe. It has a bunch of energy, and the mixes keep you pinned throughout. It’s also mixed by and features a whole bunch of dubplates, most of which i’ve never heard, by two modern day genius’s, Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990. Seriously these guys are running something, and i really fucken hope that we manage to get them over here to play at a Scatterblog party soon.
This mix is a promo for their upcoming EP on Dress 2 Sweat (pic above is the cover), out i think around September 22nd. EP is fire, you should all get it next week when it’s out.
P.S. there’s also word of their own Night Slugs label about to start up sometime in the future.

04 – Hardhead – Toothbrush Country (L-VIS 1990 edit)
05 – BOK BOK – Citizens Of The City Dub
06 – L-VIS 1990 – Zahonda [Sound Pelegrino]
07 – Little Jinder – Youth Blood (BOK BOK remix) [Trouble & Bass]

June 26th, 2009

I just realised that my last post got taken down so i thought i better throw it back up again but ill hide the mixtape tracklist in the comments section…

I had some spare time so i thought i would quickly post up a couple of things i have done over the last 2 weeks. The first one is a mix tape i did up before our show with DJ Sega in June (which btw was HUGE, thanks to everyone that came out for it!), its all club music and I’m really proud of it.

WITH A HARD “G” CLUB MIX

April 27th, 2009

Well its been roughly four and a bit years since i did my last proper dj mix. The mix was my entry for the Red Bull Academy and so much friggin work I thought I would never do another again. It took all my homies from here submitting mixes for the detboi gig promo we did a last week to finally get me off my ass and record something.

This time round I thought I would take the opposite approach and do a live “one take” kinda thing. Its not a simple mix by any means but its all me, all live. For your scratch nerds out there please take into consideration I had a broken arm at the time (excuses) but not joking.

Any way this mix is a pretty good representation of what I have been jamming in the clubs down here for the last six months or so. There’s some old mixes and some new ones, some exclusives, some oldies, but pretty much party town from start to finish.

I had a mad ass time doing it so stay tuned for some more in the future. I’m working on a “world minimal” as Scatters likes to call it, or UK Funky/Hyper-Bass mix as we speak. Should be recorded pretty soon.

With a hard “G” is titled so for those fuckers out there who keep saying my name wrong… Its “Moooo” like a cow. Then “Gen” with a hard “G“…

There has been a trend for battle dj’s to cross over into club world recently (-ie- A-Trak, Craze and DJ Klever) where they can play to bigger crowds and have a little more fun behind the decks in a little less serious/competitive world.
I have known Perplex for quite some time now and watching him make this progression into the club world has been an absolute pleasure. Most peeps have known him as a battle dj, who has taken out three consecutive national DMC titles (06, 07 & 08) and competed in the world’s a bunch of times. Now they will get to know him as someone at the forefront of dance music culture…. Just with mad ass skills as well.

This mix has taken Perplex a ton of sweat and tears to put together but its so worth it when you listen. A large percentage of the tracks in it are exclusive mashes he has put together himself. I always say that hip-hop dj’s make the best dance dj’s, purely because of the sequencing and skill level they bring to the table. Not the normal play the track to the breakdown and mix shit. But let’s flip the hell out of everything. This mix is no different. He gives us the blends of a house dj with the cut’s and mahem of and old hip hopper at heart.

Perplex is delving deeper and deeper into club world of late pretty much pushing his new sound at all his shows. We had him play at a recent Scatterblog night at Revolver and by word of mouth he killed his new sound/direction. People take note cause Perplex is going to take the club world by storm in 09.

Check the video below for his technique:

Sins On Sunday All-Stars

April 1st, 2009

Honestly i can not wait for this Friday because two of my favourite events are coming together to throw one hell of a party! Sins On Sunday has been killing it for the past 6 months down in geelong and it just keeps getting bigger and better, there is nothing on a Sunday in Melbourne that comes close to this party! This Friday the Sins crew have joined up with The Late Show and are holding an All-stars night at mine and everyone’s favourite venue Revolver. The Late Show Fridays at Revolver lately have been amazing, its seems to be getting a lot of hype and anyone that was there for the Trevor Loveys gig a couple of weeks ago will know how much of a party it is. The All-stars include myself Mat Cant, 1 Fish Two Fish, Malakai and special guest late show superhero Nick Thayer. These dudes are my number 1’s, they make me strive to be better every time i play with them and i would do anything for them. One of the creators of Sins On Sunday and all round Dope Cat, Finn Whitla aka Malakai has been making some crazy music at the moment and he was kind enough to share some of his new heat in 320 goodness. Heres a quick bio on Malakai…

Malakai was a techno DJ in another life and started throwing parties in Geelong/Torquay in 2002, all was going well but he then decided to have a break from it all. In 2005 Malakai was back after watching 2manydjs at the metro and got absolute inspiration from them. After this Malakai held down a residency at Eurotrash for about a year and has now been throwing parties again in the Geelong area for the last few years, including Sins on Sunday with his partner in crime Adrian Boorer. Malakai is now focused on DJing and production more than ever with the help of sins and the people involved and has been making music for about 2 years. Back in the day DJing was the main and only thing but now he likes being creative with other peoples creations, making music from music…

Malakai – Carpet Burn (Malakai’s Re-Edit)

Malakai & Kaysh – Im Sorry About The Table

Also here is a 70 min mix from Malakai called “Show Us Your Guns” Be prepared!

Malakai – Show Your Guns Mixtape

Next up is my brothers from seperate ponds, 1 Fish Two Fish. The Fishes, as they are commonly known, have been KILLING IT in the Geelong area for a long time now and its only a matter of time before they swim up the highway and start taking over Melbourne City. Ill leave it up to the Fish to tell you there story so here it is…

Having spent their past lives feeding on the ego’s of 80’s hair metal band members and coins from wishing wells, these chums took a liking to guns, painting portraits of cowboys and making people dance. They were unsuccessful when applying for gun licenses and as everybody knows, cowboys are extinct. They found that making people dance was a magnificent way to repent their sinful ways of old. So after spending countless months of self torture in a cold oubliette of noise, they emerged mentally distraught, malnourished and physically demented. Although now they were of higher knowledge and moral fiber. Suddenly they found themselves appearing regularly at the Club4Play backroom shindigs, Sins On Sunday Fortnightly Extravaganzas and various other festivities, sharing the booth of doom with distinguished party starters such as Cajuan (Germany), Bang Gang Deejays, Acid Jacks, Ajax, Bagraiders, T-Rek, Act yo Age, Phrase, Van She Tech, DJ Falcon (France), The Rapture (US) and even world renowned movie/TV/Rap star Xzibit to name a small few. With plans for world dominatrixxx and plenty more light-years spent in the stew-dee-oh, keep yours ears, eyes and other orifices peeled for this amazing talent known as the one, the two….. 1 Fish, Two Fish.

The Fish also have an EP coming out sometime this or next week on beatport through Acid Jacks Label Idiot House. The EP will include two original tracks Margarita Face & Owed To Earl with remixes by Breakdown, Jackmaster, Scatterblogs own Paz & Harmon, Machette and quite possibly more.

Here is two remixes the fish have sent over for you all to bath in…

Donnis – Party Works (1 Fish Two Fish 2.0 Remix)

Phrase – Clockwork (1 Fish Two Fish Remix)

Also here is a 30min mix they did for local Geelong radio station 94.7 The Pulse

1 Fish Two Fish – 94.7 The Pulse Mix

So now you know a bit about the Sins Crew come on down to Revolver Friday night and get LOOOSE! We will be….

So this week i got a bit bored and decided to record some of the tracks that i have been playing for the last month, get something recorded that i can share with you all. Since i don’t have a job during the week i decided to call it “While You Are Working… Volume One”, this is what I’m usually doing while most people are pushing the 9 to 5.

Mat Cant – While You Are Working… Volume One
