Double Pass Giveaway.

August 9th, 2010

This weekend The Espy and Scattermusic will be throwing down a super dope party. More specifically, on Saturday 14th we have Sharkslayer (FIN), Mighty Fools (NTL), Beataucue (FRA), Neoteric (CAN) and of course our very own Scattermusic Soundsystem will be tearing up the Gershwin room for a night of futuristic, bass fueled madness. These are acts  that we’ve wanted at our parties for a very long time now so we’re pretty freakin’ pleased to finally bill them (ie we’re all getting ready to go bat shit crazy on the night an slightly embarrass ourselves). I’m still not even sure quite how all this will fit into one night but we’ll find a way.

Tickets will set you back 28+BF (Thats like 7 clams per international act!!!!!!) and are available online through OzTix and Epsy Online. Doors at 9pm.

In the spirt of coming together for the tour, Neoteric, Beataucue and Sharkslayer have put together this collection of brand new tracks. The fact that you’ve already read about 175 words of our site means I wont need to persuade you on this mix, it’s just a straight no brainer.

Dj Sega is the number one cutter, the chief rocker, the think breaker, party starter and intergalactic sing singer. His show last year was quite possibly the most mental event we’ve ever had and now he’s back for a second round of Philly club induced madness. This guy plays more dubplates than any other DJ i’ve seen, not only that but during his last visit he had about one thousand Melbourne youngsters going mental to Philly sounds for 2 straight hours. All that’s left to say is if your in town this saturday the 26th then get the The Espy for what will undoubtably be one of the most memorable nights of 2010!

Also while we’re on the subject I highly recommend checking out his track with Lil’ Jon. The first half is almost entirely accapella!

A Sweet Lime!

June 10th, 2010

This Saturday June 12th at The Croft Institute we’ll be doing an official release party for the Neon Saxophone EP. As you may know it’s already been available online for a little over a week now but hey, when it comes to setting a date for a sweet lime, we’re pretty relaxed. The night will feature non-stop royalty from the Scattermusic roster with both the mighty Cumbia Cosmonauts and Scattermusic Sound System featuring Mu Gen, Scattermish and Mat Cant. Not only that but we also have a super special guest set from the hustlers of all things tropical, Congo Taridis #1! Physical copies of the release will be available on the night with the first 20 sold getting a free A0 poster by Melbourne artist Paz. Fitting all this into the space of one club night means the the selection will be no doubt dense with all acts dropping the toughest, most hype worldly club jams. Oh, and of course I’ll also be throwing down a set for the release, incorporating a whole bag of edits, remixes and versions. Doors at 10.

Until then, lets have two super hot tropical club edits to get the feel right, firstly here’s Paris Tropical by Congo Tardis #1. More specifically speaking, the splice was done by Pharoah Zap, whose mysterious cuts continue to show up in clubs everywhere.

Pharoah Zap – Paris Tropical

..and secondly we have this super rework by Ku Bo where he continues to turn all he touches to gold.

#100

May 3rd, 2010

Gameboy/Gamegirl are celebrating their 100th show at thr Mercat Cross Basement on May 14th (facebook event for Melbourners). Should be rad! I wanna go and am going to. If you don’t know about Gamegirl/Gamegirl try reading this lil bit from their press release:

4 or so years ago, Gameboy Gamegirl became a surprise hit when blogs started writing them up as a new kind of awesome before they had even played their first show. But in reality, it was a bunch of mates who were just having a joke. Tranter, Jess, Katy and Miami Horror made music that for many Australians was unheard of. It was rap music that wasn’t gangster, it wasn’t about how hard it is being a blue collar Australian, and it wasn’t sung in a really “ocker” accent. Instead, they made bubblegum rap music strictly for the club, full of sexual innuendo, references to crunk and hyphy tracks they love, and beats that inspired fists to pump and hips to shake. They released an EP on Sweat It Out, toured the world, and showed the world how to party with their live shows that included frequent nudity and drunken antics. And while they have been quiet for a while (Heck, they had broken up last year to focus on other projects), they have now got back together (minus Miami Horror) to kill it again. New material is coming out very soon, with Tranter now doing the production, heavily inspired by tropical club, afro tech, garage, uk funky, and juke house. It will be a lot more clubby and will make your face melt possibly. Depends really on how much fun times your face can take.

As a present, they’ve leaked an awesome remix of their tune “Go 2 Skool”. The “Club Dub” by Scattermusic signing and romantic love-affair, Tranter is a perfect little insight into the hooky and cute world of Tranter‘s production and Gameboy/Gamegirl’s sound – stripped back, carefree and lovable. The track doesn’t say a lot, but says everything it needs to and all of a sudden i’ve got it on repeat. I can’t wait to see what comes from all their new ventures!

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Tranters double EP release on Scattermusic in early June!

solo

Not only is it a public holiday, but we have the midget himself in the building, Solo!

He has managed to build and chaperone his own mini genre, Midget House – a sorta minimal, stripped back, un-annoying version of fidget. He also seems to be the king of production; producing for a bunch of other UK artists (in fact his early engineering for Mowgli is how he first got on my radar), he is also the master of making drums pop. There’s been times when i’ve just sit and stared into thin air trying to breakdown his rhythms – so intricate yet so effortless.

Expect some serious sounds, lots of horns and Cuica’s and a whole lotta fun.

Check out his seriously spastic completely awesome omgomgomg remix for Mowgli & Tara McDonald along with some more of his tracks and his midget mix, below:

If you want something to take home check one of our favourites, his “Con Alegria” remix along with his recent remix of Wiley, venturing into a more pop-y area::

edu k

So I’ll make this brief as it’s really late Friday night but the story goes something like this. Little over a year ago we threw down a Melbourne party to celebrate our first release as a collective of dj/producers and as the esteemed Edu K was passing through at the time it was only right that he should headline the gig. Since then that loose collective has morphed into a fully fledged record label with it’s second release produced as you probably know by Edu K himself. Now he’s back for another massive night and everything feels somehow complete. Anyhow I’m not one for sentiment but if your in town tomorrow then we’ll definitely see you in the Espy front bar (Freeee entry!) for what’s set to be one epic show. Support comes courtesy of Slap n Dash, Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Mat Cant and Cassette (Syd).

Edu K plays at The Esplanade Hotel in the front bar for free, Saturday 27/03/10.

Here’s a preview of what to expect.

Also, I know the photo is really old but it’s so rad I had to use it.

Get Ready.

Beach scene

In case you don’t know already, Scattermusic will be presenting the one and only Douster this Saturday (here) and well, we’re super exited. If I had a coin for every time someone sung praises for Douster on this blog then I’d be a rich MF so I’ll resist going there for now, just know that this party will be off the hook! While we all gear up for this one i’ll be doing a live tropical themed mix on Kiss Fm from 1-2pm tomorrow (Australian eastern standard time). Expect a hefty chunk from Douster’s back cataloge as well as a handful of random, soon to be released tracks from our own Scattermusic label. follow the link below to the station website where you can listen online.

…and while we’re embracing the spirit of tropical club music lets cop the  coconut tree riddim. I love this stuff.

Shiiiit

There’ll actually be a post with some tunes in it in the next few days too (yup don’t worry we’re still a music blog)…

Oh and if you didn’t know, Michael Cusack dominates our artwork.

supernaturalamphitheatre

Well we just produced our own festival last week with the full help and support of the Espy. Now its time to rock someone elses. So chuffed about this one. Scatterblog Soundsytem has just been asked to headline the dj’s on the sat night at pretty much our favourite music festival in the country. For those of you not familiar Golden Planes is the little bro to Meredith Music Fest. Both share the same venue and orginisational team, and both are always at the forefront of music culture. I did the same set in ’07 for MMF and had pretty much the time of my life cant wait to share the stage this time with my boys. Im not sure what the deal is with tix for this one but it sells out every year to the point where u need to get on a ballot the year before. Check this years line-up here.

We will be rocking a crazy show with all 5 of the Scatterblog acts (Slap & Dash, Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Mat Cant & Lewis Cancut) playing together for 3 hrs. We have many a surprise up our sleeves including props, dancers, sets and all sorts of bat shit crazy stuff………….. Can u say EPIC!!!!!

I was going through some pics on my computer today and found the stage plot we sent through to the festival. Its piss funny, it looks like my 8yo niece drew it or som’n, spelling mistakes and all, but you can blame me for that one. As you can see we will be pumping some heavy duty sonic sound with all that gear on the night.

scatterblog stage plot

Just thought I would share the pic along with a cheeky edit of the new Hollertronix Party Squad “Pull Up” (buy here) I did a few months back. Not much done to the original except some more hype added and a few cut ups in the second drop. Plus I also attached the Shaun D “Mad Drums” joint on the tail of it for shows, you know, so i can bump straight into another blend.. It was made in like an hour so no hating on the lameness aight!

The other two international guests to be featured tomorrow at Scatterfest are NASA and Mowgli – 1 has featured at an Scatterblog party earlier in the year, and the other has been a Scatterblog favourite since close to when we started out.

NASA’s debut album “The Spirit Of Apollo” got all kindsa heads turning (i think they were also most talked about act of 2009 on hypem?), featuring a whole range of big name vocalists. Their live show is filled with cut up and remashed music and visuals, some space costumes and accessories and a whole lotta hype – producing a huge individualistic and exciting show.

Mowgli on the other hand has been some1 who’s music Scatterblog has been in love with since way back when. His style has been ever evolving and he now really leads the market with his label Deadfish and their midget house sound.

Both of their shows will be explosive for totally different reasons. TONITE YO!

So there’s a last minute double double ticket giveaway! So i’ll make em easy.
For one double pass, just answer what Mowgli’s alias is.
For another, name 6 people that featured on NASA’s Spirit Of Apollo album.
Only one double pass per person.

Shit Robot is the shit.

January 19th, 2010

Shitty ass robot

Shit Robot is like one of those ever elusive characters in dance music but maybe thats just due to a lack of online content, hard to tell sometimes you know. The history I remember hearing is that Marcus Lambkin (SR) originally worked in punk circles until James Murphy lent him a bunch of old drum machines and let him figure it out. While that’s probably fiction, it would explain the raw dancefloor sound sounds he’s become associated with over the years (rockers make notoriously great dj’s such as Edu-K and Dave Nada). It’d probably be more accurate for me to just say Marcus met James while running club nights in New York and well, the rest is DFA history. Wrong Galaxy, his first record going back a few years, blew minds with it’s mix of rough drums and loud arpeggiated synths but it was this remix of Kaoss Panopeeps that first put him on my radar (buy). If I had a nightclub based on a disused space station drifting through distant galaxies that’d be my soundtrack. Here’s a little something else he sent through for us to anticipation up his upcoming Scatterfest appearance. It’s his burning remix of ‘No Time’ by Juan Maclean, get it while it’s hot.

Juan Maclean – No Time (Shit Robot remix) (ysi)

Shit Robot and others play at Scatterfest with full Scatterblog support, Saturday 30th of January here in Melbourne at the Esplanade Hotel. Tickets are just 20+bf and are available Espy online, from the Espy Bottle shop, Polyester Records, Missing Link and Northside Records.
