Scattermusic

………….

The last few weeks have extra been large with festivals, tours and big gigs between the bunch here at scatterblog,  its now at the point where im becoming scared for my health. The parties have all been huge and there is no off-time this week as our fav dj/producer is back in town.

Tomorrow night Late Night Date and Sweat It Out have teamed up to produce a label party crammed with local talent. Filled with the labels signings from Melbourne and Sydney and the king of quirkly left field dance Douster. Im expecting this to be one of the parties of the year and very much looking forward to representing the scatterblog crew by doing a vs set with Mat Cant that will be one full time freak-out show. Dress lightly and don’t forget to bring a towel!

First up im giving away 3 double passes to the first three people who can tell me the first two words spoken in the song attached for download below. Make sure u send your answers to this email: scattermusicteam@gmail.com

Busy Signal x Crookers x Douster / I jus wanna fuck (Douster remix)

Douster has given us some exclusive heat here yet again. This tune rocks the dance hall dance vibe juuuuuuuust right for me. Crazy hook vocals, punchy kicks and a synth hook that rolls so dope. Im tipping this will be dropped by the man himself tomorrow night and i just cant wait to get dutty wit it. No more about the song, just download it and send your answers in if your from Melbourne and wanting to party tomorrow night.

It’s pretty close to release time (27th July) for my Fizzdom joint so i thought i would start the promo train and share a mix i did a bit over a month ago now. At the time of making this i was really getting down to futuristic dark club music, stuff that sounds like it was made for ravers in 2020. Drums, deep bass and dark synth lines from start to finish are not my usual style, but this mix and the fizzdom release signifies a turning point in my sound i would say. I wasn’t really concerned with putting together a set of well known bangers, it was more of a self indulgent process and something i really needed to get out of my system at the time. Recorded live on two 1200′s, Rane ttm56 and Serato. I cant believe it’s taken me this long to upload it, but its here now so ill just shut up and give u the tracklist.

To say that we have some bad-ass parties coming up would be a gross understatement.!!!!!!!!

Waiting on some final artwork touches but the big one “SCATTERFEST II” and then it will be announced later this week.

………..

To say that I have a slight obsession with Moombahton would be like totally right. Initially the story on how moombahton founder Dave Nada started the whole thing at some underage Latino skipping party got me curious, but after digging deeper into the tunes and bumping them on dance floors I have fallen in love.  Before my life as a club music dj I was pretty hard out into hip hop and turntableism which makes moombahton feel just right for me. Lewis once said to me after hearing some of this shit “its as if we were playing hip hop all this time, just sped the fuck up”,  and he is so right! It just feels like such a relief to be jamming tunes at slightly over 100bpm to a club crowd again. You can do so much more as a dj in terms of manipulating the music at this speed.

Onto the mix: Well Im not gonna spew words for ages so here it goes. The start is full of some of the tunes you might already know, they have been floating around for a couple of months now and are mainly edits of “big tunes”. By the time you hear Munchi’s contribution its some next level boomahton bizz. This dood is the future of moombahton, he is making original tracks in the moombahton style that are just blowing the edits/remixes out of the water. Cant wait to see a whole bunch more in the realm of original moombahton production. When I started the mix I also put the word out to the other Scattermusic homies to make some edits of their own to include, sooooo dope when they turn out to be some of the hottest tracks in the mix. Everyone on the team has at least one on here. Cant believe we pulled this off from start to finish in 2 days… BOOOOOOOOm

Some 2012 shit!

Im not usually posting much bass music these days but i cant help it with releases like these two. Both big on bass and both hella inventive. The first one by ex-Aftershock grime crew member Scratcha DVA is release number 30 for the bass heavyweight label Hyperdub. Its a bit left of center compared to their normal releases but maybe that’s why Im into it so much. Gunja is the B side to an all impressive 12″ that has one of the most head nodding hypnotic hook lines to grace my cans in ages. Its DVA’s first release for the label and Im really looking forward to seeing what he does next.

DVA – Gunja (download)

Second up is the all impressive I.D. & Baobinga “Bass Music Sessions Release”. On first listen to this LP i didn’t know what to think. Its some serious 2012 shit. All kinds of bass music tunes from bad-ass hip hop to experimental electronica have been put together to make an album that has seriously blown my mind. Its gaining support from cats such as: Buraka Som Sistema, Claude Von Stroke, Sinden, LVis1990 and many more. Hither & Thither is prob not my fav track on the album but the one that most freaks me out. I seriously suggest buying this if ur short on production inspiration as its been that and more for me of late. Tune of choice from me is “Hush Up Riddem”. But Im gonna make u buy that one.

King Of Africa – VIP

March 20th, 2010

27252_1132496572415_1827302742_273832_5335005_n

To say that the original version of this song was a hit would be a huge understatement. Here in Melbourne it seemed like every dj was dropping it either as an intro or as a fail safe track when the dance-floor was looking a little sparse. We were lucky enough to cop the VIP mix from Douster in a trade recently. Once I heard him play it live my sole focus was obtaining this tune.

The story of the original is still a pretty cute one though. I think goes something like this: Douster and his sister were on the train and he overheard her humming the “lion king” theme. He was like “whats that?”. Then proceeded to download the youtube clip and convert that into a 64 kbps sample. Proving its not always the quality of the audio but what u can do with it. After a while I think he got sick of the original and made a beefed up house version (VIP mix).

I just got word from Hugo that this is now available for public sharing. So below I give u just in time for your saturday night club sets the amazing King Of Africa VIP mix. Enjoy as its straight fire.

Douster – King Of Africa (VIP Mix)

Plus a little bonus joint for y’all… Dousters mega bass remix of Untolds “Anaconda”. The first time I heard this I was shocked when the drop happened. I thought it was going to go to a whole other place after the intro but instead sample drops of “bad man” and bad-ass bass was the call. Its been killing it for me on dance floors of late so jump on this.

Untolt – Anaconda (Douster Dagga Robot edit)

Bonus joint #2… Not so down with this one, but hey no point in not sharing…

Die Antwoord – Enter The Ninja (Douster Butterfly Remix)

supernaturalamphitheatre

Well we just produced our own festival last week with the full help and support of the Espy. Now its time to rock someone elses. So chuffed about this one. Scatterblog Soundsytem has just been asked to headline the dj’s on the sat night at pretty much our favourite music festival in the country. For those of you not familiar Golden Planes is the little bro to Meredith Music Fest. Both share the same venue and orginisational team, and both are always at the forefront of music culture. I did the same set in ’07 for MMF and had pretty much the time of my life cant wait to share the stage this time with my boys. Im not sure what the deal is with tix for this one but it sells out every year to the point where u need to get on a ballot the year before. Check this years line-up here.

We will be rocking a crazy show with all 5 of the Scatterblog acts (Slap & Dash, Scattermish, Mu-Gen, Mat Cant & Lewis Cancut) playing together for 3 hrs. We have many a surprise up our sleeves including props, dancers, sets and all sorts of bat shit crazy stuff………….. Can u say EPIC!!!!!

I was going through some pics on my computer today and found the stage plot we sent through to the festival. Its piss funny, it looks like my 8yo niece drew it or som’n, spelling mistakes and all, but you can blame me for that one. As you can see we will be pumping some heavy duty sonic sound with all that gear on the night.

scatterblog stage plot

Just thought I would share the pic along with a cheeky edit of the new Hollertronix Party Squad “Pull Up” (buy here) I did a few months back. Not much done to the original except some more hype added and a few cut ups in the second drop. Plus I also attached the Shaun D “Mad Drums” joint on the tail of it for shows, you know, so i can bump straight into another blend.. It was made in like an hour so no hating on the lameness aight!

So all hell is bout to break loose at any moment now with the third release from us here at Scattermusic. A whole bunch of love, favours and dodgy handshakes have made this one come together. Edu K is a much loved artist here, and we are more than privileged to release the music of someone we respect and think is at the pointy end of his scene. So before the bomb drops on what we think is a crazy well rounded release, here is a little tid bit to get stuck into;

As Slap & Dash Scatters and I went to town on this remix. We messed around loads with the song, and along the way it morphed through all kinds of sonic mixtures before becoming what it is on the final release. This version was thrown out along the way and didnt quite make the cut. Its is a dub drum-heavy joint with a real raw party feel. Taking more of the focus towards rythm and drum rather than a synth hook line. These two remix’s are very different from each other but we kinda love em both.

EDU K – Ja’ Mann (Slap & Dash Drum Dub)

P.s. Santa is coming a day earlier than I sated in comments of previous post…. So….Its dropping today!

Zombies For Money EP 1

December 19th, 2009

zombies

Introducing Zombies For Money. I wanna start this up by saying this is the first release in months that has completely made me do the big double take. If you’re wondering who the hell they are? Well then my answer would be: two crazy rad dudes (DJ Manaia & Klipar) from Portugal who are gonna blow the hell up in 2010.

This EP is so stupid tight! The duo seem to have found influence from kuduro, dutch synth, afro-house and all sorts of worldly goodness. They have managed to utilise all of these influences and make one amazingly tight and original sounding piece of work. The arrangements are a-grade, drums heavy, synths funky, hooks hooky and pretty much everything else i concentrate on when producing is covered. It’s one of those “i so wish i made this album” moments. My pick out of this bunch would have to be “Bhangra Dance”. No more needs to be said really.

They boys have be most nice and offered the whole Ep up for free so check out the sound of next year below:

Tribal Club…..

December 13th, 2009

GetAttachment-1As you already know Scatters and I have been getting all sweaty in the studio working out the new Slap & Dash mix. It has become a monster that is owning all of my attention. Along the way in trying to make something “new” we have tried a whole bunch of songs and sounds. Some made it into the mix, others did not. Here I’m going to pay homage to some of the tracks that got thrown out along the way.

This tune rules my world at the moment. I had never heard of Venezuelian Ronny Santana before i coped this burner a few weeks ago, but then with only 7,000 plays on his myspace i dont think many out there had. Totally melting together tribal beats and chants with dutch synth styled electro it has a charm on the dance-floor like nothing else. It has worked for me in all types of sets, playing pretty much every roll a song could. Such a shame it couldnt find a place in our set.

Ronny Santana / En La Nalga (On The Ass) feat. Jordy

The Costuleta tune is heavy original sounding Kuduro. Its some sort of mystery tune where no-one is really certain who created it. Word on the street is that Dj Znobia made the beat originally with early vocal versions from Vagabanda and others. Shame they aint credited on the version that blew up. Made nearly 4yrs ago it is still sounding “current” as far as Kuduro bangers go. Massive tune, kind of makes me sad that we couldn’t fit it in the mix.

Costuleta ft DJ Znobia / Tchriri

OK so this is gonna be bananas!!! The new emperors of Thursday night debauchery HANGTIME, same dudes that have thrown mad parties of late presenting acts such as: La Roux, LMFAO, and Spinderella. Well, they have been way friggin nice and invited us, the infamous blog nerds and dance floor crushers SCATTERBLOG to deliver on some filth. This is going to be one mega fun co-lab, so come party-drink and dance with a fat chick this thursday at Ding Dong (addy above).

SET-TIMES
9-10: Dublin Aunts
10-11: Lewis Cancut
11-12: Mat Cant
12-1: Mu-Gen
1-close: Scattermish

I hear Dublin Aunts are gonna provide some freaky party disco shiz. We are gonna provide the ruckus via club, kuduro, funky, hip hop, grime and all things ghetto. I know Mat has made a cheeky edit of hip hop superstar Bangs he’s gonna drop, think Lewis will prob end up in hospital from some sort of tragic dagga incident, Scatters is most def gonna drink his weight in whiskey and well me,? I’m gonna spend the whole night rubbing myself as i just got a new velvet jumper.. POW!

Not gonna leave without giving up a track or two…… The Shaun-D joint is straight heat. First time I heard it I lost my shit, about a week later I was like “not sure”, then I lost my shit once more, so now I’m posting it before I think its “meh” again. It’s a bubbling-kuduro number with air horns, crazy synth and a dash of ze bula vox. Just download it! The Ghislain tune is hard arse dance hall-ragga. Wish I had more sets to play this kind of heat.
