Its your girl Lady Chann!

July 20th, 2010

For the last few months i have been looking forward to this coming weekend so much, not am i celebrating the day of my birth but I’m also DJing with one of my favourite MC’s in the world, Lady Chann! If you don’t know who Lady Chann is then its time sit up and pay attention because she is about to take over and you need to be ready, and that’s real talk!

The are a lot of MC’s out there doing there thing over Funky tunes at the moment but Lady Chann is definitely one that is standing up above the rest. Not one to stick to the one sound with her unleashing over anything from bashment riddims, grime, funky, dubstep and everything in between. Lady Chann’s work ethic is something not to be messed with either, it seems like every week I’m getting a tune that she features on and with talks of an album coming out in the first quarter of 2011 (executive produced by the godfather Sticky) i don’t see her slowing down anytime soon.

All the way back in May Lady Chann released her Dun Dem Season Mixtape that was mixed by the guys from South Rakkas Crew and its filled with hits like “Sticky Situation” and “King Riddim” plus her upcoming single “Treble To Your Bass” that should hopefully be released soon!

Recently Lady Chann did a track with Australia’s own Two Fresh which has been going great in the clubs over here and has been added to radio. Our boy Sampology from Brisbane did a great remix of this track that has been a staple in most of our sets since its been released, big up Sam!

Blow Your Vuvu!

June 22nd, 2010

So the world is going football crazy at the moment as the World Cup takes over our lives, i think its funny how so many people in Australia become instant experts in football when World Cup is on. One thing i have fallen in love with during the World Cup is the Vuvuzela, not enough to sit there and listen to vuvzela.fm all day or even go out and buy one, but enough to claim myself as a fan. If you don’t enjoy the sounds of the vuvu then there are HEAPS of filtering options you can use, there’s even a ‘Pro’ option from audio company Waves with there Vuvuzela noise reduction chain but with a price tag of around US$3000 why would you bother!

If you can’t get enough of the Vuvuzela you could always go and buy one, or even buy the iphone app or even better grab a copy of this HUGE tune Serocee has just leaked, i would say its got to be the best thing to come out of the UK during the World Cup (oooooohhhhhhhh, did i just say that? hahaha) Im sure as hell going to be playing this all weekend and i suggest you do too… SOUND DI VUVUZELA!!

Serocee – Sound Di Vuvuzela (Original Mix) (direct link) (alt link)

Also rumor has it Serocee might FINALLY be coming out to Australia at the end of this year so look out for more info on that

*BONUS*

Just got sent another track featuring the Vuvuzela this time from Scattermusic fam Swick, he brings it to the club with this and with a nice little chant down in the middle this is what you need to get the party real hype

Someone that’s really jumped on my radar recently is the Belgium duo Hector & Nate, in early July they will be releasing their debut EP Jeunes Hommes on MSMD records and i can tell you its a really great first EP. The EP includes 3 original tracks and 2 outstanding remixes from Le Petit Belge & Vhyce.

To get ready for the release of the EP Hector & Nate have sent out their new June Mix that includes loads of great house tunes from the likes of Renaissance Man, Mowgli, Camel, Riva Starr and Para One. If you love your house music do yourself a favour and go download this mix…

Its Just Bars

April 14th, 2010

Grime music isn’t something that you would expect to hear in Australia but that’s all about to change thanks to a dedicated crew based in Melbourne. At the forefront of this movement is a MC by the name of Fraksha, you may know him from the group Nine High or from the M-Phazes hit album ‘Good Gracious‘ but trust me he has a lot more than that going on. Ive been doing a bit of work recently with Fraksha and hes just gone and dropped his first solo release titled “Its Just Bars“and not only is it one of the hottest mixtapes i’ve heard this year, its also the first grime tape to be put out in Australia. The album is mixed flawlessly by Melbourne DJ Affiks and it features a heap of local talent, the dubstep/grime scene in Melbourne is really starting to turn heads. The release is set to be followed by a Smashbrothers EP and a Fraksha solo EP later in 2010 so keep your eyes out for that.

You can download the album ‘It’s Just Bars’ here, or if you want a continuous mix download it from his soundcloud. While your at it follow him on twitter and give him a big up too!

Here is a couple of bonus videos to check out too, look out for my remix of “Next Sound Level” coming out soon!

tinie

Its not that often that a song comes along that i listen to over and over but this Tinie Tempah track has really got me. I don’t know why, maybe if its because I’m listening to a lot of UK radio at the moment and its being played over and over while sitting pretty at #1. Whatever that case i think its really good to see this track getting so much love and proving that you don’t need to make watered down shit to get a hit record.

Tinie Tempah – Pass Out (mediafire)

My boy from the UK Smutlee made a nice blend with Vybz Kartel too, get on it

Talking about getting things stuck in your head, thanks to The Heatwave i’ve had this riddim stuck for way too long, so i have decided to share it with you. I have been listening to so much dancehall lately but this one continues to get reloaded over and over. It was released in October 2009 so its not super fresh but its definitely one of my favourite riddims at the moment.

ROSKA

March 12th, 2010

roska

Roska’s been on my radar for awhile now with his future garagey type beats and recently he put out this video of his track Squark, i cant wait to get a hold of this!

YouTube Preview Image

Roska is also about to release his debut album on Rinse and to hype it up they will be releasing two 12″ – the first of which is simply titled Roska 1. There is three tracks on the EP, two vocal tracks (featuring Jamie George and Anesha) that are rad funky  tunes but to me its all about “Time Stamp”, that thing is madness! Its got a great funky step with a old school feel and that hook will get stuck in your head for weeks.

Here’s a link for you all but make sure you watch out for the 12″ landing on the 5th of April.

Roska – Time Stamp (zshare) (alt link)

Warrior One

February 22nd, 2010

Anyone that knows me will know that i have been completely taken by the UK club sounds at the moment, especially the funky bashment movement. London DJ/production duo Warrior One have been pushing the funky bashment sound recently and have a really solid debut EP that’s coming out soon. The EP includes the carnival hype ‘King Riddim‘ feat the amazing Lady Chann, i play this tune every chance i get and it never disappoints, will be a big tune in 2010. Next is the Ninjaman sampling “Bad Like Jimmy Cliff“, a ode to Jamaican ska legend that really gets the bass bins moving. The rest of the EP starts to cater for the late night heads showing they can rave with “The Machine” and “Turn The Music Up“, both getting huge support from Annie Mac.

Here’s the big tune “Bad Like Jimmy Cliff” and the  amazing video they made for it that samples the movieThe Harder They Come“, enjoy!

james amato

As you should all know by now Scatterfest isn’t too far away so expect a lot of posts highlighting some of the artists that appear on the line up. After Lewis great post on Shit Robot, I’ve put together a bit of background information on James Amato.

James Amato is one of the most widely recognised names in the electronic music scene, and also one of the busiest. Not just a DJ, James divides his time promoting club nights and since 2007, has been running his fidget/electro/tech-house record label ‘Potty Mouth Records’ which is one of the hottest labels in the music scene today.

1990 saw James launch his music career in Milwaukee and as he worked his way through the local and Midwest rave scene, his profile grew. In 2004 James became Milwaukee’s Mantra Lounges co-owner/director of music and bookings – which opened the doors for him to launch the successful club night ‘Kamasutra’. The night continued to grow during the 3-years stint, giving the club national attention with publications in URB magazine and a front-page cover story in Nightclub/Bar Magazine.’

Basing himself in Chicago in 2006, James became the new director of Music and Bookings for ‘Smart Bar’, a venue with 25 years of showcasing electronic talent under its belt. Juggling the roles of both promoter and booker, he was responsible of bringing Chicago some of the hottest acts in the electronic music scene to date. These included Switch, Alan Braxe, Digitalism, Crookers, Erol Alkan and Claude Vonstroke .

In 2007, James received critical fanfare in Chicago when he was named part of New City Magazines “45 Most Influential People That Rock Chicago.” In addition to this he was named one of the next “10 Exciting Up-And-Comers” in the electronic music world in 2008.

James’ rising profile in the underground electronic scene led to the creation of two successful digital/vinyl labels including the well-known Potty Mouth Music which has now established itself as a label which has supported the electro, house, techno and crunk genres. The label has released over 30 EP’s and has showcased big-name talent including: Santiago & Bushido, Crookers, HiJack and the Mightyfools.

In October 2009 James relocated to Los Angeles where he continues to balance his career as a promoter, label-owner, DJ and producer.

As an extra here is a link to a current phone interview James did on potty mouth music
JAMES AMATO INTERVIEW

I can’t write this post without some music so here is James’s Latest Mixtape featuring a lot of Potty Mouth Releases. This will give you a great idea of what you will witness in a James Amato DJ Set.
