Galambo is Chilean musician/producer and folk investigator Bryan Phillips, who recently relocated to Melbourne.  Australia is very privileged Galambo has chosen to live in Melbourne, as this is a project connected to the futurist folk scene in Latin America having played gigs with the likes of Argentine genius producer Chancha Via Circuito (ZZK Records) and their debut album was produced by Argentinian digital cumbia guru The Peronists.

Phillips spent some time in Melbourne in 2006 as a participant of the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA), so you could say he has gone full circle by releasing his debut album Andakoyo in Melbourne tonight Saturday 5 November at Tropical Space Lab, a monthly event I’ ve been hosting for 12 months at iconic Fitzroy venue Bar Open (317 Brunswick St).

Andakoyo is a concept record, deeply rooted in the “bailes chinos” of Andacollo; dancing miners of the north of Chile.  An expression that is over 1000 years old that displays an essential understanding of the aboriginal “binary sound”.  In the tradition of great folk artists like Violeta Parra, Galambo seeks to unveil the sonic identities of the Andes.  From shamanistic indigenous ceremonies to songs of worship to the divinity. In a cultural syncretism between traditional instruments and electronics.
